Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Rs 3300 IMAX tickets sold out in India weeks before release

Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film The Odyssey is witnessing extraordinary advance booking demand in India, with premium IMAX tickets priced as high as ₹3300 already sold out nearly a month before its official release.

The film, which is generating global excitement, opened advance ticket sales for IMAX screens only a few days ago—nearly five weeks ahead of its worldwide release on July 17. Despite the high pricing, demand in India has surged, particularly for premium recliner and sofa seating in major metropolitan cinemas.

The most expensive tickets are being sold at PVR Icon in Mumbai’s Phoenix Palladium Mall, where recliner seats are priced at Rs 3300. At the IMAX screen in Wadala’s Miraj Cinemas, sofa seats priced at Rs 1800 have also been fully booked for the opening weekend (July 17–19), with limited availability remaining for opening night shows.

In Delhi-NCR, premium IMAX screenings at venues like Select City Walk and Priya Cinemas are also witnessing strong demand, with top-tier seats priced between Rs 2100 and Rs 2400 already selling rapidly for night shows during the opening weekend.

Industry trackers say that even front-row seats are being booked early, reflecting unprecedented anticipation for the film in the Indian market. Many shows are already nearing full capacity weeks before release, indicating a likely housefull opening across IMAX formats.

The growing demand highlights the strong fan following for director Christopher Nolan in India, where his films consistently perform well in premium cinema formats. The Odyssey marks a major milestone in filmmaking as it is the first film in cinema history shot entirely using IMAX cameras.

The film stars Matt Damon in the lead role as Odysseus, alongside Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, and others in a star-studded ensemble cast.

Directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan, the film is based on Homer’s ancient Greek epic and follows the journey of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, as he struggles to return home after the Trojan War.

Warner Bros. Discovery India has stated that India is among the first global markets to open advance bookings for the film, further boosting early demand. Cinema experts suggest that premium IMAX formats will continue to see rapid sellouts as release day approaches.
