Centre accepts responsibility for CBSE OSM glitches, says corrective measures underway

The Centre has acknowledged discrepancies reported during the CBSE Class 12 results under the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system and said corrective measures are currently underway.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated that the government accepts responsibility for the issues and is working to resolve student grievances through revaluation and technical improvements.
Speaking during a CBSE review meeting, Pradhan said the board has engaged leading institutions, including IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras, to oversee the evaluation technology and ensure accuracy in the digital marking process.
He also said that four public sector banks — State Bank of India, Indian Bank, Bank of Baroda, and Canara Bank — have been integrated into the system to streamline payment and administrative processes linked to re-evaluation and student services.
“The government acknowledges some discrepancies, accepts responsibility, and promises corrective measures. Officials will ensure that no student query is left unresolved and accountability will be ensured at all levels,” Pradhan said.
CBSE has clarified that its On-Screen Marking system is supported by a secure IT infrastructure and that multiple layers of quality control are in place during evaluation. The board also stated that no security vulnerabilities were found in the assessment process.
However, the new digital evaluation system has faced criticism from students and educators, with complaints about mismatches in scanned answer sheets and technical issues during the re-evaluation process.
The OSM system, introduced for Class 12 board exams from 2026, involves scanning handwritten answer sheets and evaluating them digitally, with the aim of improving transparency and reducing manual errors.
Teachers and school principals have raised concerns that the system was implemented too quickly, citing inadequate training and infrastructure challenges in some regions.
Despite the criticism, CBSE has defended the initiative, stating that it represents a major step toward modernising India’s examination and assessment framework.
