BJP accuses Rahul, Priyanka Gandhi of manhandling cops during Delhi protest

The BJP on Thursday accused Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of misbehaving with police personnel during the INDIA bloc’s protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in New Delhi.
BJP spokespersons Pradeep Bhandari and Sidharth Yadav alleged that Rahul Gandhi pushed and inappropriately touched a woman police officer, while Priyanka Gandhi Vadra punched or pushed another female officer. The allegations were based on video footage circulated by the BJP. There was no immediate Congress response to the specific allegations.
The BJP also alleged that some Congress workers kicked and pushed police personnel during the protests and accused the opposition party of attempting to create unrest through street demonstrations. Bhandari compared the situation to “anarchy” in Nepal and Bangladesh and alleged that Rahul Gandhi was seeking to put pressure on the Supreme Court through the protests.
The INDIA bloc has been demonstrating against the Election Commission and demanding the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar over its objections to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and other opposition leaders were detained by Delhi Police for the second consecutive day on Wednesday.
Delhi Police has since registered multiple FIRs against Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and others over alleged assault on police personnel and obstruction of officials during the protests.
The BJP also questioned whether the alleged conduct of the Congress leaders was consistent with their public slogans on women’s rights and opposition to patriarchy.
