BJP accuses Opposition of fomenting anarchy

Hitting back at the INDIA bloc protest led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the BJP on Tuesday accused the Opposition of fomenting anarchy and said the marchers are “venting their frustration” over their electoral defeats by levelling baseless allegations against the constitutional bodies to malign their image. The BJP said the Congress is re-launching Rahul Gandhi.

“The reality is that Rahul Gandhi is a kaamchor (slacker) and he is levelling allegations of ‘vote-chori’,” party spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi charged, adding, “How many times has Rahul ever camped in a poll-bound State for at least one week or two weeks and campaigned for his party?” Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters, Trivedi slammed the Opposition for “theatrics on the streets” and asked the Congress whom it wants to benefit by demanding voting rights without verification for those identified as “absent, shifted, dead and duplicate” voters.

While the BJP deployed two of its senior spokespersons to counter the Congress’ “vote-chori” charge, several other ruling party leaders also attacked Gandhi, accusing him of “spreading lies”.

Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad slammed Rahul Gandhi, saying he is sitting in one of Delhi’s most sensitive areas and fomenting anarchy. He said the bottom line is clear: Rahul Gandhi, his party president, and others are demanding a return to ballot papers, which implies that since they cannot win elections using honest technology, they want to win through booth capturing. Prasad added that they want to prevent Dalits and people with low incomes in villages from voting, perhaps by throwing ink into ballot boxes and then securing a victory. He said this has been their strategy for years.
