Bhubaneswar rape case : Police seize toy gun, six phones from accused's mother

Police have seized a toy gun, six mobile phones and other articles from the mother of a man accused of raping a woman in Bhubaneswar, officials said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as 24-year-old Santosh alias Sreedhar Panda, allegedly raped a 26-year-old woman at her rented flat on the night of September 30 after threatening her with a toy gun while wearing a mask, police said.
Panda was arrested on October 3 after he sustained injuries in police firing when investigating officers attempted to apprehend him, police said.
During the investigation, police found that the accused had left his mother and some belongings at the house of a distant relative in Jagatsinghpur district after the alleged incident.
The relative, along with Panda's mother, appeared before Nayapalli police on Monday and handed over the articles that the accused had kept in his bag, a police officer said.
Apart from the toy gun, police seized a T-shirt, a towel and six mobile phones.
Further investigation is underway, police said.
