Assam Election Results 2026 Live Updates: NDA Heads for Majority, Himanta Biswa Sarma Set for Third Term

Counting of votes for the Assam Assembly Elections 2026 is underway, with early trends indicating a strong lead for the BJP-led NDA, which appears set to retain power for a third consecutive term.

According to the Election Commission trends, the NDA is leading in over 75 seats in the 126-member Assembly, comfortably crossing the majority mark. The Congress-led alliance is trailing significantly, with leads in around 30–35 constituencies.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is leading from his Jalukbari seat with a substantial margin, reinforcing the NDA’s dominant position. The trends suggest that the ruling alliance could secure a decisive mandate once again.

In key constituencies such as Dispur and Guwahati Central, BJP candidates are maintaining strong leads. In Jorhat, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi is trailing behind BJP’s Hitendra Nath Goswami by a significant margin, as per the latest rounds of counting.

The counting process began at 8 am under tight security arrangements across the state. Trends from multiple constituencies indicate that the BJP has made steady gains across both urban and rural regions.

Earlier, exit polls had predicted an advantage for the NDA, and the current counting trends appear to align with those projections.

The Assam Assembly has 126 seats, and a party or alliance needs at least 64 seats to form the government. With the NDA already crossing this mark in early trends, the alliance looks poised to return to power.

As counting continues, all eyes are on whether the NDA can extend its lead further and secure a two-thirds majority in the state.
