AIIA launches special digital initiative AyurVarta

As a significant initiative to take the rich knowledge tradition, scientific perspective and global potential of Ayurveda to the masses, the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi has launched a special digital dialogue series, ‘AyurVarta’, on the occasion of the upcoming Ayurveda Day.

Through ‘AyurVarta’, meaningful conversations with leading experts will be presented on important aspects of Ayurveda, contemporary healthcare challenges, scientific research, education, clinical practice, and the expanding global outreach of Ayurveda.

The inaugural episode of ‘AyurVarta’ featured a special dialogue between Professor (Vaidya) PK Prajapati, Director, All India Institute of Ayurveda, and Professor Dr Mahesh Vyas, Dean, Ph.D., AIIA. The central theme of the episode was: “Why is Ayurveda Day celebrated on 23 September?”

The discussion explored the history of Ayurveda Day, its earlier observance on Dhanvantari Jayanti (Dhanteras), and the decision of the Government of India to designate a fixed date for the annual observance of Ayurveda Day.

On the occasion, Professor (Vaidya) PK Prajapati, Director, AIIA, said, “Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, continuous efforts are being made to establish Ayurveda not only as India’s ancient system of healthcare, but also as a significant knowledge and healthcare system with growing relevance in the global health landscape. This year, Ayurveda Day will be observed with great enthusiasm and on a wider scale not only across the country but also in several countries around the world. This growing global participation reflects the increasing recognition and acceptance of Ayurveda internationally.”

During the ‘AyurVarta’ discussion, Professor Dr Mahesh Vyas, Dean, Ph.D, AIIA, explained that 23 September falls around the Autumnal Equinox, a period when the duration of day and night is approximately equal. The concept of balance and equilibrium is central to the Ayurvedic understanding of health and well-being. In this context, the significance of 23 September also provides an important conceptual association with Ayurveda’s emphasis on balance, harmony and equilibrium.

The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) is an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. The Institute is committed to promoting excellence in Ayurveda education, healthcare and advanced research, while contributing to the strengthening and advancement of academic, clinical and research institutions in the field of Ayurveda.

The designation of a fixed date for Ayurveda Day is expected to provide the annual observance with a more consistent, structured and global identity.

‘AyurVarta’, launched by AIIA, is not merely a programme but a continuing digital initiative aimed at creating meaningful dialogue on Ayurveda.

The episodes of ‘AyurVarta’ will continue to be made available through the official digital and social media platforms of AIIA.

Viewers will be able to watch the programme through AIIA’s official YouTube, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram platforms.

Through this initiative, AIIA aims to make authentic and scientifically informed knowledge about Ayurveda accessible to young people, students, physicians, researchers, academicians and the general public in a simple, engaging and effective format.

The launch of ‘AyurVarta’ marks another step towards strengthening the dialogue around Ayurveda and taking India’s rich traditional knowledge system from India to the global community.
