Abhishek Banerjee unlikely to appear before West Bengal CID over health issues

Trinamool Congress leader and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee is unlikely to appear before the West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Monday due to health-related issues, according to sources.

The CID had summoned Banerjee in connection with an ongoing investigation into allegations involving forged signatures of party legislators. The disputed communication was reportedly submitted to the West Bengal Assembly Secretariat and is linked to the endorsement of Sovandeb Chattopadhyay as Leader of the Opposition.

Sources said Banerjee has cited medical reasons and is currently undergoing treatment at home, following health concerns that emerged after an incident during his visit to Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas. He was reportedly injured during a confrontation at the residence of a post-poll violence victim and later received treatment at private hospitals.

The CID had earlier issued a notice asking him to appear at its Bhabani Bhaban headquarters in Kolkata. The notice was personally served at his Kalighat residence as part of the ongoing probe.

Meanwhile, BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya reacted to the development, wishing Banerjee a speedy recovery and expressing hope that he returns to public duties soon.

The investigation into the alleged forged signature case continues, with the CID examining the circumstances surrounding the submission of the disputed document to the Assembly Secretariat.a
