3 year old girl allegedly raped by school staff in Delhi; accused gets bail

A staff member of a private school in Delhi’s Janakpuri area has been accused of raping a three-year-old girl during school hours, police said on Friday.
The incident came to light on May 1 after the child’s mother lodged a complaint at the Janakpuri police station alleging that her daughter was sexually assaulted by a school staff member inside the school premises.
Following the complaint, police registered a case under Section 64(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with punishment for rape, along with provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to police, the child was able to identify the accused, which led to his immediate arrest.
The accused was later produced before a magistrate and sent to judicial custody.
Delhi Police said in a statement that the accused was granted bail by a Dwarka court on May 7 despite strong opposition from the prosecution.
Officials added that further action would be taken after the court order is received and examined
Police have not disclosed the identity of the accused or the school in order to protect the identity of the minor survivor.
