Shashi Tharoor to skip VD Satheesan oath ceremony; Know why?

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said he will miss the swearing-in ceremony of VD Satheesan as Kerala Chief Minister due to a scheduled visit to the United States.
Tharoor said he would be in Boston to deliver the commencement address at the graduation ceremony of his alma mater, The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He will also participate in the 50th anniversary reunion of his graduating class.
In a post on X, the Thiruvananthapuram MP expressed regret over missing the ceremony and described it as “an occasion for celebrating the past in the US even as I look forward to the future in Kerala.”
The swearing-in ceremony of VD Satheesan is scheduled to take place in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday following the Congress-led United Democratic Front’s victory in the Kerala Assembly elections.
Tharoor’s absence comes amid growing political attention around his increasing prominence within the Congress party and Kerala politics. During the recently concluded Assembly election campaign, he emerged as one of the Congress-led UDF’s most sought-after campaigners across the state.
The senior Congress leader addressed several rallies across Kerala, attracting large crowds, especially among youth and urban voters. His speeches and campaigning style reportedly boosted the party’s outreach during the election season.
Within party circles, there is increasing recognition of Tharoor’s wider appeal beyond his Thiruvananthapuram constituency, giving the Congress a nationally recognised face in Kerala politics.
