Punjab Govt to issue final reply in Atishi privilege case

Punjab’s Additional Chief Secretary (Home) will issue a final reply in the privilege case involving Atishi, Delhi Leader of Opposition, after obtaining approval from the competent authority, officials said Friday.
The Delhi Assembly Secretariat had sought written comments from the Punjab Government in connection with a breach of privilege and contempt matter related to alleged remarks made by Atishi concerning Sikh Gurus.
In an official statement, the Office of the Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Home Affairs, Government of Punjab, clarified that, prior to receiving the February 5 communication, there had been no direct correspondence from the Delhi Legislative Assembly Secretariat regarding this specific case. The department stated that since receiving the February 5 document, it has actively processed the matter. It also confirmed that, afterward, formal comments from senior law enforcement and forensic authorities in Punjab were sent to the concerned offices in Delhi.
These include inputs from the Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, the Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar, and the Director of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Punjab. The comments address the issues raised by the Delhi Legislative Assembly Secretariat.
Officials said a comprehensive and formal response from the additional chief secretary is now being finalised. The reply will present Punjab’s definitive position on the matter. It incorporates the findings and reports submitted by the state’s top police and forensic authorities. The draft response has been submitted for approval by the competent authority. Once cleared, it will be formally communicated to the Delhi Legislative Assembly Secretariat.
The case relates to alleged remarks attributed to Atishi, who is the Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly.
The Secretariat had sought the Punjab Government’s views as part of its examination of the privilege and contempt issue. Punjab officials said the process is being handled as per established procedure. They added that the final reply will be sent after all required approvals are in place.
