Police tighten security across Capital ahead of Kanwar Yatra
Delhi Police stepped up security arrangements across the national Capital ahead of the annual Kanwar Yatra, deploying additional personnel, Quick Response Teams (QRTs), PCR vans and pickets at strategic locations to ensure the smooth and safe movement of Kanwariyas, officials said on Wednesday.
Senior police officers said elaborate security and traffic arrangements have been put in place across the city, particularly in north, northeast, east, central, outer north, outer, Rohini, Dwarka, west, southwest and south Delhi police districts that fall along the routes used by devotees entering the Capital from neighbouring states.
Police established camps along the Kanwar routes to provide immediate assistance to pilgrims whenever required.
“There are seven major entry points in northeast Delhi through which Kanwariyas enter the city. These routes also connect to several other districts, making them critical from both the security and traffic management perspectives. Adequate deployment has been made at all these locations,” a senior police officer said.
To ensure seamless movement of devotees, Delhi Police has also held coordination meetings with police forces in neighbouring states. Officials said personnel have been instructed to extend assistance irrespective of jurisdictional boundaries in case of emergencies.
“Our teams will not restrict themselves to jurisdictional issues. If assistance is required anywhere along the route, police personnel will respond immediately and coordinate with the concerned district,” the officer said.
Apart from security measures, Delhi Traffic Police has prepared an extensive traffic management plan aimed at reducing inconvenience to commuters while ensuring uninterrupted passage for Kanwar pilgrims. Traffic personnel have been deployed at major intersections and diversion points, and motorists have been advised to follow traffic advisories and use alternate routes wherever necessary.
On Wednesday, senior officers of the Delhi Traffic Police inspected arrangements at Ghazipur’s Telco Point and Chintamani Chowk in Shahdara district, where they reviewed traffic management measures and interacted with personnel deployed on the ground. Police also said all fire stations across the national Capital have been directed to remain on alert to respond promptly to any emergency during the pilgrimage.
