PM pushes ease of living, business

Government’s top officials receive a fresh reform mandate amid speculation over a Cabinet reshuffle
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday directed the top functionaries of the Government to focus on two significant elements for people-centric governance - De-regulation and other reforms for ease of doing business and ease of living while working towards the promotion of Aatmanirbharta (self-sufficiency).
In his interaction with the Secretaries of Union Government ministries and departments, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of adopting a whole-of-Government approach and breaking departmental silos, according to sources.
“Prime Minister exhorted the Secretaries to focus on the tangible impact of schemes on the lives of people,” a source said of the meeting held at Seva Teerth. PM’s Principal Secretaries PK Mishra and Shaktikanta Das, along with Cabinet Secretary TV Somanathan, were also present.
The secretaries outlined the major steps being taken by their ministries and departments in line with the two key themes as advised by the PM. They highlighted ongoing efforts to translate the PM’s vision into actionable outcomes, while also discussing sector-specific challenges and outlining their future strategies to enhance governance and service delivery.
Official sources said secretaries made 3-minute-long presentations each to brief on the performance of their ministries, departments, highlighting progress on structural reforms, citizen-centric initiatives and key policy interventions.
The recent crisis in West Asia situation and how the Government could cope up with the energy crisis was also discussed and during this the call for being Atmanirbhar was discussed and that the concerned departments should work in tandem to meet the country’s energy requirement through our own resources.
The discussions focused on next-generation reforms that support the Government’s vision of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047 under the Viksit Bharat mission.
During an earlier review meeting on May 21 with the Council of Ministers and all secretaries, PM Modi had stressed the need for faster decisions and that files should move without unnecessary delays. “A few secretaries at Tuesday’s meeting shared some points following the PM’s last advice to them, in which he had urged ministries to simplify administrative processes, improve productivity and focus on structural reforms,” sources added.
Reiterating the Government’s long-term vision, PM Modi reportedly conveyed to the officials that Viksit Bharat 2047 is “not merely a slogan but a firm commitment” of the Government.
The meeting is being observed as a prelude to the expected massive reshuffle of the Council of Ministers anytime ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which could be scheduled for July 20.
The reshuffle buzz intensified after PM Modi met President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on June 23, on the sidelines of a Padma Awards function. The speculation was further fuelled two days later, on June 25, when Union Home Minister Amit Shah also called on the President.
