Kanpur crash takes new turn
The probe into Kanpur’s high-profile Lamborghini crash took a dramatic turn on Wednesday after a man claiming to be the designated driver said he, not tobacco baron K K Mishra’s son Shivam Mishra, was behind the wheel when the car ploughed into pedestrians on VIP Road. Police insist evidence shows Shivam was driving.Mohan, who appeared in court to surrender, said Shivam suffered a seizure in the passenger seat, fell on him and caused him to lose control. The car struck a three-wheeler, mounted a divider and stopped, he claimed, adding that the vehicle’s automatic locks delayed his exit. He said he later shifted Shivam to the driver’s seat. The court declined to accept his surrender after police said he was not an accused.The Revuelto, worth over Rs 10 crore, crashed on Sunday, injuring e-rickshaw driver Mohd Taufeeq, who lodged an FIR but is now said to have settled. Police cited CCTV and eyewitnesses in naming Shivam. The car has been seized for forensic tests, and further investigations are ongoing to clarify the circumstances of the crash.
DMK-TVK clash in Chennai
A violent clash erupted between DMK supporters and volunteers of Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in North Chennai’s Harbour constituency, leaving several people injured, police said on Wednesday. The incident occurred in Parry’s Corner after TVK volunteers reportedly went door-to-door on February 10 as part of “field work”. Residents alleged the volunteers sought sensitive details, including Aadhaar and ration card numbers and G-Pay-linked mobile numbers, and pressured them to vote for Vijay. A local resident alleged the questioning made families feel unsafe, saying the confrontation soon escalated into a physical scuffle. Witnesses claimed several women were assaulted during the melee.
Firing in Mumbai: MCOCA invoked
Police told a special MCOCA court on Wednesday that the accused in the firing at filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s Juhu residence aimed to create terror in Mumbai, prompting the invocation of the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). The court remanded five accused-Aditya Gayaki (19), Siddharth Yenpure (20), Samarth Pomaji (18), Swapnil Sakat (23) and Asaram Fasale-until February 17, noting the incident was “just the tip of the iceberg.” At least five rounds were fired at the first floor of Shetty’s nine-storey building on February 1; one bullet hit a gym window. The Anti-Extortion Cell of Mumbai Police is probing the case. The accused are linked to Lawrence Bishnoi gang member Shubham Lonkar, who claimed responsibility on social media. Lonkar is also wanted in the Baba Siddique murder case and the firing at Salman Khan’s Bandra residence.
