Odisha man gets 10-year term for raping teen

A fast-track court in Odisha's Kendrapara district on Thursday, August 6, sentenced a 21-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually harrassing a teenage girl.
Special Judge Tribikram Keshari Chinara convicted the accused under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The court also directed the Odisha State Legal Services Authority (OSLSA) to pay Rs 4 lakh as compensation to the survivor.
According to the prosecution, the 17-year-old girl's mother had lodged an FIR alleging that the accused sexually assaulted her minor daughter on July 27, 2025, when the girl was alone at home.
Police arrested the accused following the complaint and filed a chargesheet after completing the investigation.
During the trial, the prosecution examined 15 witnesses, including the survivor. Based on their testimonies and medical evidence, the court found the accused guilty and pronounced the sentence, Special Public Prosecutor Samar Keshari Mohapatra said.
