NHAI directed to resolve recurring waterlogging issues along NH 24, says PWD Minister

The Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh on Thursday directed NHAI to raise the road level to resolve recurring waterlogging problems on NH 24.

Heading the ‘UT Level Coordination Committee’ on the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Delhi government issues, several directions were given, including waterlogging at Mahipalpur T-Point.

The committee undertook a detailed review of recurring waterlogging on NH-24, particularly at the Patparganj and Pandav Nagar underpasses.

“Vulnerable locations including Nausena Bhawan, Thal Sena Bhawan, Mahipalpur T-Point and the R&R Hospital underpass were also reviewed. PWD and NHAI were directed to implement permanent engineering solutions. PWD has already completed the desilting of the concerned drain on NH-24, while NHAI has been directed to raise the road level to ensure a permanent solution to the waterlogging issue,” Singh said.

Effective coordination among all departments is essential for infrastructure development. Clear responsibilities and timelines have been assigned to every agency. Our priority is to eliminate inter-departmental bottlenecks, he added.

The minister has also directed NHAI to submit detailed technical reports on recurring waterlogging at the Mahipalpur flyover and the Parade Road underpass.

“NHAI consultants were directed to submit detailed technical reports to facilitate permanent engineering interventions. All agencies were also instructed to jointly address drainage and sewer-related issues,” he added. 

The meeting also reviewed progress on the Andheria Mor-NH-48 Corridor, utility shifting for the Rangpuri Bypass Tunnel, the Rohtak Road Corridor, service roads and drainage infrastructure. “BSES was directed to complete the remaining technical formalities on priority, while all concerned departments were instructed to expedite pending approvals and utility shifting to keep project timelines on track,” Singh further said.

The meeting also discussed traffic congestion at Delhi’s border entry points caused by MCD toll plazas.

“NHAI and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi were directed to jointly address operational bottlenecks and take coordinated measures to ensure smoother movement of traffic entering the national capital,” he added.

The minister also directed close coordination with the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to expedite pending land-related issues concerning important National Highway projects.
