Nepal signals reset with India, rejects ‘Hyper-Sensitive’ approach to Bilateral Ties

Nepal has expressed its desire to strengthen relations with India, stating that the two countries should move beyond excessive sensitivities and focus on building a more constructive and forward-looking partnership.
During recent discussions in New Delhi, Nepal's Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal emphasized that Kathmandu holds no historical grievances against India and is committed to fostering a "genuinely transformative" relationship with its closest neighbour.
Khanal highlighted the deep cultural, historical, and people-to-people connections shared by the two countries, describing the relationship as civilisational in nature.
He also called for the revival of dormant bilateral mechanisms and more frequent high-level political exchanges to strengthen cooperation in areas such as trade, connectivity, energy, and development.
The remarks come amid periodic tensions over border-related issues and geopolitical competition in the region.
However, both India and Nepal signalled a willingness to focus on future opportunities rather than past disagreements.
Analysts view the development as an important step towards improving diplomatic ties and enhancing regional stability in South Asia.
