Monsoon likely to hit Kerala in 2–3 Days, says IMD

The southwest monsoon is expected to arrive in Kerala within the next two to three days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its latest forecast on Tuesday. The weather office added that conditions remain favourable for further advancement of the monsoon over parts of the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, and southern states.
According to IMD, the monsoon is likely to progress into additional parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep, and adjoining sea regions during this period. The department had earlier revised its onset date, after initial expectations of a May 26 arrival were not met due to changing weather conditions.
The IMD also noted that India may receive around 90% of its Long Period Average rainfall this monsoon season, indicating a below-normal outlook. It attributed the forecast to evolving El Niño conditions, which are known to weaken monsoon rainfall across the country.
Experts say that while the monsoon onset may be slightly delayed, its subsequent progress across central and northern India will depend on the strength of large-scale weather systems forming over the coming weeks.
