MCD grants equal pay to 4,400 health staff

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has granted final approval for equal pay to around 4,400 Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) employed on a daily basis contract (DBC) in its Health Department. The move will raise eligible employees’ salaries by nearly Rs 10,000 per month, Mayor Pravesh Wahi announced on the occasion of Independence Day.

Wahi described the decision as a significant Independence Day gift for MTS DBC employees, saying the need to extend equal pay benefits to this category of workers had existed for a long time. He said the approval came after the corporation completed various administrative, financial and legal formalities required to implement the decision.

The Mayor said the necessary groundwork was completed in coordination with Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma and Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar. He said the MCD administration’s objective was to protect employee interests and ensure fair pay in line with their duties and responsibilities.

Wahi had first announced the measure in his Budget Speech as Leader of the House. He said the commitment made at that time was not left as a mere assurance, and that the administration worked through financial, legal and procedural hurdles to formally sign and approve the decision. “Today, I am pleased that after overcoming several hurdles and completing all the necessary formalities, final approval has been granted for this decision,” Wahi said. “This is not merely an administrative decision for us. It is a matter of ensuring the dignity and rights of MCD employees.”

According to the Mayor, the revised salary will be paid from the coming month as per applicable rules. Employees benefiting from the equal pay decision will continue performing duties associated with the MTS post.
