MCD acts against 1,046 illegal properties in a month, 47 dangerous buildings razed

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi took demolition action against 1,046 properties across the capital’s 12 zones between September 6 and October 10, sealing 282 properties and razing 47 dangerous buildings, as the civic body intensified its crackdown on illegal construction under the directions of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Chief Minister’s Office said on Sunday.
The Chief Minister said the ongoing drive aimed to ensure public safety and prevent potential accidents linked to unsafe structures, and directed the corporation to sustain and accelerate the demolition campaign across the city.
According to the data released by the Chief Minister’s Office, demolition action was carried out against 158 properties in Rohini, the highest among all zones, followed by 121 in South Zone and 115 in Shahdara North.
Other zones took action against 87 properties each in City-SP Zone, Shahdara South and West Zone; 85 in Karol Bagh; 75 in Central Zone; 63 in Civil Lines; 62 in Narela; 61 in Keshavpuram; and 45 in Najafgarh. On sealing, City-SP Zone recorded the highest number at 87 properties, followed by 41 each in Shahdara North and South Zone. Keshavpuram saw 20 properties sealed, Central Zone 18, West Zone 23, Shahdara South 27 and Civil Lines eight.
Karol Bagh recorded 11 sealed properties, Najafgarh three, Rohini two and Narela one, bringing the city’s total to 282 sealed properties. Action against dangerous buildings saw Karol Bagh record the most demolitions, with 13, followed by eight each in Civil Lines, City-SP Zone and West Zone.
Narela and Rohini recorded two demolitions each, while Keshavpuram and South Zone also saw two each. Shahdara South and Najafgarh recorded one demolition each. No demolition of dangerous buildings was reported in Shahdara North or Central Zone during this period, taking the total number of dangerous buildings demolished to 47 across Delhi.
Following a building collapse in Seemapuri, concerned agencies demolished one unsafe building in the area, according to the statement. The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board also issued notices to three other houses in the locality as part of the response to the incident.
The CM said the campaign against illegal construction and dangerous buildings would continue, with the Government’s objective extending beyond enforcement action to ensuring compliance with building regulations and enabling timely intervention against structures posing a threat to public safety.
She said concerned agencies must act strictly in line with the rules in cases of illegal construction and unsafe buildings, with demolitions and sealing carried out wherever necessary, regardless of locality.
She added that the action would continue across all zones of Delhi, with the Government’s clear objective of ensuring compliance with building norms and reducing the risk of accidents linked to unsafe structures.
