Marco Rubio meets PM Modi in Delhi, Discusses India-US Strategic Partnership

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi during his first official visit to India, with both leaders discussing ways to strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
Prime Minister Modi said the discussions focused on regional and global peace, security and continued cooperation between the two countries.
“We discussed sustained progress in the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and issues related to regional and global peace and security. India and the United States will continue to work closely for the global good,” PM Modi said in a post on X.
Rubio arrived in India earlier in the day and visited the Mother House of Saint Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata before travelling to the national capital.
The US Secretary of State is also scheduled to hold wide-ranging talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and attend the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal welcomed Rubio’s visit and said it would further strengthen the strategic partnership between India and the United States.
US Ambassador Sergio Gor highlighted that the visit would focus on deepening cooperation in trade, energy, investment, critical technology and Indo-Pacific security.
According to officials, discussions between Rubio and Indian leaders are expected to cover the ongoing West Asia crisis, global economic challenges, energy supplies and bilateral trade negotiations.
Rubio’s visit comes amid efforts by both countries to stabilise ties after recent tensions over tariffs, immigration policies and remarks made by US President Donald Trump regarding India-Pakistan military tensions.
The US Secretary of State is scheduled to visit Agra and Jaipur before returning to Delhi for the Quad meeting involving India, the United States, Japan and Australia.
