Khoda market shut for 5 days after Surya Chauhan Murder; massive security deployed in Ghaziabad

Even five days after the murder of Surya Chauhan in Ghaziabad’s Khoda area, the local market remains completely shut as grief, anger, and tension continue to dominate the locality.
Surya was stabbed to death on Bakrid (May 28), after which his elder brother Yash Chauhan has been inconsolable, repeatedly asking if his brother will return. The family and residents continue to express deep grief, while the area remains under heavy security cover.
Authorities have deployed around 400 personnel, including police and RRF units, within a one-kilometre radius of the incident site. Barricades have been placed, and drone surveillance and flag marches are being conducted to maintain law and order.
Following the killing, police carried out an encounter of main accused Asad, while three other accused, including his father Nawab, have been arrested. One accused remains absconding. Authorities have also taken action against alleged illegal constructions linked to the accused.
The victim’s family continues to demand strict justice, while local traders say they are unwilling to reopen shops until complete security is ensured. Both Hindu and Muslim traders have kept their establishments shut amid fear and uncertainty.
Relatives say Surya’s mother Saroj is in critical emotional and physical condition, while Yash Chauhan is undergoing treatment for a long-term illness that has worsened after the tragedy.
Political leaders and local representatives have visited the family, announcing financial assistance and assurances of support, while calls for strict punishment against all accused continue to grow.
The situation in Khoda remains tense, with authorities maintaining strict surveillance and urging calm as investigations continue.
