Jasprit Bumrah cleared fit for Sri Lanka tests
India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been declared fit to play in next month's two-Test series against Sri Lanka, after clearing fitness tests conducted by the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru.
Bumrah had been included in the squad subject to fitness, having sustained an impact injury during India's recent ODI series in England that forced him to sit out the third ODI at Lord's.
"Jasprit Bumrah has recovered from his injury. He has cleared the fitness tests mandated by the COE. Hopefully he will be available for both games as he is integral to the team's plans," a senior BCCI official told PTI on condition of anonymity.
The two-match series gets underway on August 15 in Galle, with the second Test to be played in Colombo from August 23.
A 2-0 series win over Sri Lanka is considered important for India ahead of what is expected to be a tough away series in New Zealand. India need to win seven of their remaining nine Tests in this World Test Championship cycle to stay in contention for a berth in the summit clash.
The team is already without Harshit Rana and Nitish Reddy, who are out with hamstring and quadriceps injuries respectively. Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the first Test with a hamstring injury, while Akash Deep remains on a long lay-off following stress reactions in his back.
