Iran President Slams US Blockade as ‘Doomed to Fail’; Oil Hits 4-Year High Amid War

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has strongly criticised the proposed U.S. naval blockade, calling it illegal and “doomed to fail” amid escalating tensions in the ongoing Iran conflict.
In a statement, Pezeshkian said any attempt to impose maritime restrictions violates international law and would only deepen instability in the Persian Gulf. He warned that such actions would increase regional tensions rather than enhance security.
The remarks come as U.S. President Donald Trump signalled that the blockade could continue for months, pressing Iran to accept strict limits on its nuclear programme. The prolonged standoff has already impacted global markets, with oil prices surging over 5% to a four-year high.
Meanwhile, U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth faced intense questioning in Congress during his first appearance since the war began. Lawmakers debated the rising costs of the conflict, depletion of military resources and lack of congressional approval for the operation.
On the diplomatic front, Vladimir Putin warned against renewed military strikes on Iran during a call with Trump, cautioning that further escalation could have “extremely damaging consequences” for the region and beyond.
The conflict is also affecting global business operations. Amazon said its cloud services in the Gulf region, including Bahrain and the UAE, have been disrupted due to damage linked to the ongoing hostilities, with recovery expected to take months.
As tensions persist, the geopolitical crisis continues to ripple across energy markets, global trade and diplomatic relations, raising concerns of a prolonged and wider regional conflict.
