Iniyan Panneerselvam wins Double Gold at Commonwealth Chess Championship

Indian Grandmaster Iniyan Panneerselvam delivered an impressive performance at the Commonwealth Chess Championship in Sri Lanka, clinching double gold medals in the Rapid and Blitz categories.
The Tamil Nadu-based chess player scored 6.5 points from seven rounds in both formats to secure the top position and emerge champion in the two events.
In the Rapid section, Grandmaster Srihari won the silver medal, while Grandmaster Mitrabha finished with the bronze medal.
In the Blitz competition, Grandmaster Rohith Krishna claimed silver, while Srihari added another medal to his tally by securing bronze.
Meanwhile, the Classical format title was won by Mitrabha. Sri Lankan player Ranindu Liyanage secured the silver medal, while Srihari finished third with bronze.
The Commonwealth Chess Championship was held in Sri Lanka from May 16 to May 26 and featured participants from multiple countries, including India, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Mauritius, Maldives, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kenya, Malaysia, Singapore, Scotland and Canada.
The tournament was conducted across three formats — Blitz, Rapid and Classical — with a total of 96 players participating in the Open section.
