IndiGo flight lands safely at igia after engine failure

A 15-year-old Boeing 737 with about 160 people on board, operating IndiGo flight 6E 579 from Visakhapatnam to Delhi, made a safe emergency landing following an engine failure. A full emergency was declared at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) at 10.39 am on Saturday following reports of one engine failure, according to sources.
The Delhi Fire Services said it received information about the situation at around 10:53 am, following which fire tenders were rushed to the airport. “A flight made an emergency landing at Delhi Airport. According to the fire department, everyone is safe, and no damage has been reported. The fire department received information about the emergency landing at 10:53 am and immediately dispatched fire tenders. The flight landed safely,” the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) said in a statement.
The flight landed at 10.59 am as per the flight tracking website flightradar24.com. IndiGo has wet-leased (hired with an operating crew) the aircraft (TC-COR) from Corendon Airlines of Turkey. IndiGo has five of Corendon Airlines’ wet-leased aircraft, intended to operate on a short-term basis.
IndiGo, in a statement, said that the technical snag was detected shortly before landing. “As a precautionary step and in accordance with the standard operating procedure, the pilots requested for priority landing, and the aircraft arrived safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi. All relevant authorities were promptly informed, and the aircraft is undergoing necessary checks and maintenance.
