Indian Coast Guard rescues 6 fishermen in overnight operation off Mangaluru coast

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) rescued six fishermen from a distressed fishing boat during a challenging overnight search and rescue operation off the coast of Mangaluru in Karnataka, demonstrating swift response and operational readiness amid rough sea conditions.
According to the Coast Guard, the Indian Fishing Boat (IFB) Manju Matha sent out a VHF radio distress call at around 4 pm on Monday after suffering severe flooding and hull damage approximately 33 nautical miles off the Surathkal coast. The incident placed the lives of all six crew members at immediate risk.
Responding to the emergency, the Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Sachet was immediately diverted to the location and reached the distressed vessel within 90 minutes. Despite rough seas, strong winds, poor visibility and approaching darkness, the rescue team carried out the operation with precision and professionalism.
The Coast Guard deployed remote-operated lifebuoys specially designed for rescue operations in adverse weather, enabling the crew to safely recover all six fishermen. By around 6 pm, every crew member had been rescued without injuries.
Following the successful rescue, ICGS Sachet proceeded to New Mangalore Port, where the rescued fishermen were safely disembarked and necessary formalities were completed. The Coast Guard said the mission underscored its commitment to safeguarding lives at sea through rapid response, advanced technology and highly trained personnel.
