India, UAE sign major energy pact during PM Modi visit

India and the United Arab Emirates signed major agreements on energy cooperation, strategic petroleum reserves and defence partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Abu Dhabi on Friday.
One of the key announcements includes the UAE storing 30 million barrels of crude oil in India’s strategic petroleum reserves, strengthening India’s energy security amid rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
During delegation-level talks, PM Modi met UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and discussed ways to deepen the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The two countries also signed an agreement on the supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and an MoU on strategic petroleum reserves. An additional agreement on strategic defence cooperation was also exchanged between the two sides.
India and the UAE further signed an MoU for setting up a ship repair cluster at Vadinar, while investment commitments worth USD 5 billion were announced across Indian infrastructure and financial sectors.
PM Modi thanked the UAE leadership for the warm welcome and described the Emirates as India’s “second home”. He also strongly condemned attacks targeting the UAE amid the ongoing West Asia conflict and praised the country’s leadership for maintaining stability and national unity.
The visit marks the first leg of PM Modi’s six-day, five-nation diplomatic tour covering the UAE, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy.
