Demolition drive launched in Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh to clear encroachments

Authorities launched a large-scale demolition drive in northwest Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh on Sunday to remove encroachments and facilitate a road-widening project.
The operation began early in the morning with heavy deployment of police and paramilitary personnel to maintain law and order during the exercise.
Officials said action was being taken against around 150 unauthorized structures located along the road.
Senior police officers remained present on-site as the area was turned into a high-security zone to ensure the demolition proceeded without disruption.
The authorities stated that the drive is part of efforts to improve traffic movement and public infrastructure in the locality.
The operation has drawn attention from residents and local stakeholders, with some expressing concerns over displacement while authorities maintain that the action is necessary to reclaim public land and support planned development works.
The demolition drive is expected to continue until all identified encroachments are cleared.
