Delhi’s Shastri Park Furniture Market Blaze Triggers Chaos, Fire Tenders Attacked

A massive fire that broke out at the furniture market in Delhi’s Shastri Park area triggered panic and chaos after angry locals allegedly pelted stones at fire tenders over a delayed response.
According to officials, the blaze erupted in the crowded furniture market area, rapidly spreading through multiple shops due to the presence of highly inflammable materials such as wood, foam and paint. Thick plumes of smoke engulfed the locality as shopkeepers and residents rushed to safety.
Several fire tenders were deployed to control the blaze. However, tensions escalated when locals, frustrated over the alleged delay in firefighting operations, reportedly attacked some of the fire brigade vehicles by pelting stones.
Officials said the situation was later brought under control with police intervention, allowing firefighters to continue rescue and cooling operations. No casualties have been reported so far, though significant property damage is feared.
Videos from the spot showed flames leaping from shop structures while firefighters battled the inferno amid heavy smoke and narrow lanes that hampered operations.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. Preliminary reports suggest that the blaze may have started due to an electrical short circuit, though the exact reason is yet to be confirmed.
The Delhi Fire Services said efforts were focused on preventing the fire from spreading to nearby residential areas and adjoining shops.
