Delhi FSL cuts case pendency by 72%: Sood
Delhi’s Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has reduced its case pendency by 72 per cent over the past year, with the pending cases falling from 27,585 in June last year to 7,178 as of July 31, 2026, Home Minister Ashish Sood said on Saturday.
Sood, while inspecting the laboratory, its infrastructure, forensic investigation facilities and functioning, said timely forensic examination was important for reducing delays in trials and ensuring speedy justice.
According to a statement, the laboratory disposed of 3,49,519 exhibits over the last 12 months and has been examining and disposing of more than 3,000 cases every month since November 2025.
The minister said the laboratory had taken several measures to improve its capacity, including strengthening its manpower, modernising scientific equipment and streamlining workflows.
In 2025, the laboratory recruited 247 scientific personnel on a contractual basis to strengthen examination and reporting of cases.
The FSL has engaged 90 M.Sc-qualified interns for investigation and crime-scene-related work, the statement said, adding that six mobile forensic vans have also been procured and made operational for its teams across different ranges.
Sood said forensic experts had been deployed across all six ranges and 15 districts of the Delhi Police in accordance with the provisions of the new criminal laws to provide scientific assistance at crime scenes.
The laboratory has also introduced e-reporting through the e-Forensic 2.0 (Integrated Criminal Justice System) portal. Twenty-five video-conferencing facilities are operational for recording evidence before courts, according to the statement. The FSL has also implemented iGOT Karmayogi, an online learning platform for government employees, the minister said.
He added the laboratory’s National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) accreditation has been extended for four years, while its International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation-Mutual Recognition Arrangement (ILAC-MRA) recognition has been extended for one year.
