DDA collects 2.5 tonnes waste from sports complexes

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has collected approximately 2.5 tonnes of waste from its sports complexes as part of a month-long “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign, with single-use plastic bottles now banned and new segregation dustbins installed across these facilities, officials said.
The campaign, led under the guidance of Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, began on September 17, 2026, and covers DDA’s parks, green spaces, sports complexes and recreational facilities, focusing on cleanliness, environmental improvement, public awareness and citizen participation. DDA officials and staff, along with 75 RWAs, students, children, park users and others connected to public spaces, have been taking part in the activities.
The cleanliness drive has covered Saket Sports Complex, Netaji Subhash Sports Complex, Squash and Badminton Stadium, Hari Nagar Sports Complex, Paschim Vihar Sports Complex, the Dwarka Sports Complexes in Sectors 11 and 17, Major Dhyan Chand Sports Complex, Rashtriya Swabhiman Khel Parisar, Poorv Delhi Khel Parisar, Chilla Sports Complex, Yamuna Sports Complex, Qutab Golf Course and DDA Lake View Golf Course. Activities included cleaning of sports and recreational facilities, parking areas, green spaces and other public-use areas, along with upkeep of landscaped sections.
Beyond the sports complexes, the campaign includes three special initiatives. “Children to the Green, Learn, Care and Participate” engages children and students in cleanliness and environmental awareness activities, encouraging them to take responsibility for parks, trees and natural resources. “Bin before Overflow” focuses on regular monitoring and timely emptying of dustbins in parks to prevent overflow, littering and unhygienic conditions.
The campaign also includes plantation of native tree species and environmental awareness activities aimed at strengthening Delhi’s green cover, promoting biodiversity and improving the ecological quality of public spaces, with awareness sessions covering proper waste disposal, prevention of littering, protection of trees and plantations, and responsible use of public facilities.
DDA said the goal is to build a sense of ownership so that cleanliness and responsible use of public spaces continues beyond the campaign period itself. The Authority said it remains committed to continuing such initiatives, with greater public involvement, to build cleaner, greener and healthier public spaces across Delhi going forward.
