Congress best placed to take on RSS-BJP, only party not breaking ideologically: Rahul Gandhi

Leader of Opposition and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday asserted that the Congress remains the only political party in the country that is not breaking down ideologically and is therefore best equipped to challenge the RSS-BJP.
Speaking at a meeting of the party’s general secretaries, state in-charges and state unit chiefs in New Delhi, Gandhi said the Congress would emerge stronger in the coming years due to its ideological commitment and organisational resilience.
According to party sources, Gandhi told leaders that the Congress continues to stand firmly by its core values at a time when several political parties are facing internal divisions and ideological challenges.
The Congress leader also expressed concern over the state of the Indian economy, describing it as “fragile” and attributing the situation to government policies rather than global economic factors alone. He reportedly stressed the need to hold the government accountable and called for greater pressure on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the issue publicly.
During the meeting, Gandhi further alleged that constitutional provisions related to tribal communities were being violated in several states and Union Territories, including Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He claimed that such actions were benefiting industrial interests at the cost of tribal rights.
“If there is one party that is not breaking down ideologically, it is the Congress. If there is one party that can fight the RSS-BJP, it is the Congress,” Gandhi was quoted as saying during the meeting.
His remarks come against the backdrop of a major political crisis within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) following its defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections and a large-scale rebellion within the party.
In recent weeks, a significant section of TMC legislators and Members of Parliament have broken away from the party leadership, triggering speculation about a possible realignment in West Bengal politics.
The Congress leadership meeting was also attended by party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and other senior leaders to discuss organisational matters and political strategy.
