CM Rekha reviews Kanwar Yatra preparations
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta chaired a high-level review meeting at the Delhi Secretariat on Friday to finalise preparations for the Kanwar Yatra during the holy month of Shravan.
The Chief Minister directed that welcome gates be set up at key entry points, flower showers arranged for arriving devotees, round-the-clock medical services deployed at all camps, and sanitation at Kanwar camps treated as the highest priority, with negligence at any level not tolerated.
The meeting was attended by Art and Culture Minister and Kanwar Committee Chairman Kapil Mishra, committee member MLAs Ajay Mahawar, Anil Sharma, Karnail Singh, Sanjay Goyal, and Umang Bajaj, and senior officials from concerned departments.
On welcome arrangements, the Chief Minister said the Delhi government will set up welcome gates at key routes and entry points across the city to receive Kanwariyas arriving with holy Ganga water from Haridwar and other sacred sites. Arrangements will also be made for flower showers to welcome devotees.
The Chief Minister said she will personally visit different parts of the city to greet the Kanwariyas. A single-window system has been put in place to simplify the process of obtaining permissions and facilities required by Kanwar committees. The objective is to ensure that committees do not need to approach multiple departments and receive all assistance in a timely and coordinated manner. On sanitation, the Chief Minister directed that cleanliness at Kanwar camps be treated as the highest priority. She instructed round-the-clock sanitation arrangements and adequate deployment of sanitation workers.
The number of mobile toilets is to be increased, with special attention given to quality, regular cleaning, and maintenance.
She said all mobile toilets at Kanwar camps must meet high-quality standards and that responsibility for their upkeep must be clearly assigned.
On medical services, the Health Department has been directed to ensure adequate facilities at all camps, with doctors and healthcare personnel deployed in separate shifts so medical assistance is available throughout the day and night. Directions were also issued for an adequate supply of safe drinking water, uninterrupted power supply, and effective advance arrangements to manage waterlogging during the rainy season.
On route management and security, traffic management along Kanwar routes was reviewed in detail. The Chief Minister directed officials to complete preparations related to barricading, route diversions, PCR deployment, and accident prevention in advance in coordination with Delhi Police and Traffic Police.
The Chief Minister said the Kanwar Yatra is a living symbol of social harmony and cultural heritage. She said the Delhi government is committed to ensuring that every devotee of Lord Shiva visiting the capital feels safe, respected, and welcomed.
