CJI Surya Kant clarifies remarks on youth, says media misquoted statement

Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant issued a clarification over his recent remarks, saying a section of the media had misquoted his oral observations and wrongly projected them as criticism of the youth of the country.
Expressing disappointment over the reporting, the Chief Justice said he was referring specifically to people who entered professions using fake or bogus degrees.
“I am pained to read how a section of the media has misquoted my oral observations made during the hearing of a frivolous case yesterday,” the CJI said in his clarification.
He added that his criticism was directed at individuals who had entered the legal profession through fraudulent means and claimed that similar elements had “sneaked into the media, social media, and other noble professions as well.”
“These people are like parasites,” he remarked.
Clarifying his stand on young people, the CJI said it was “totally baseless” to suggest that he had criticised the youth of the nation.
“Not only am I proud of our present and future human resource, but every youth of India inspires me,” he said.
The Chief Justice further stated that Indian youth are the pillars of a developed India and said he shares a deep sense of respect and admiration for them.
