CEC Gyanesh Kumar Visits Uttarkashi border areas to review poll preparedness

Story:
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar visited Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand to review election preparedness and inspect polling infrastructure in areas located near the India-China border.
During the visit, the CEC travelled to the strategically important Harsil region to assess the readiness of polling stations situated in remote and high-altitude locations. The inspection focused on communication facilities, security arrangements, transportation access, and logistical support available for election personnel.
Officials said the visit is part of the Election Commission’s efforts to strengthen electoral processes in difficult terrains and ensure smooth voting operations in border regions.
Chief Electoral Officer of Uttarakhand, Dr. BVRC Purushottam, highlighted the challenges faced during elections in Uttarkashi, where many polling booths are located in inaccessible mountainous areas affected by snowfall and unpredictable weather conditions.
The CEC also reviewed the ongoing special summary revision of electoral rolls, which includes adding eligible new voters, deleting names of deceased or shifted individuals, and correcting voter data to ensure error-free electoral records.
Apart from election-related inspections, Gyanesh Kumar is also scheduled to visit the Gangotri Temple to review administrative and security arrangements in the pilgrimage region.
Local residents and officials welcomed the visit, expressing hope that the ground-level assessment would improve connectivity, emergency support, and facilities at remote polling stations.
Election Commission officials stated that the initiative reflects the commitment to ensuring democratic participation even in the country’s most geographically challenging border areas.
