Party reviews organisational preparedness ahead of UP Assembly election scheduled for next year
BJP national president Nitin Nabin held a review meeting on Monday with senior BJP leaders, addressing organisational readiness and pending party appointments at both national and State levels. The meeting also focused on plans to mark 12 years of the NDA Government. There is speculation of a Cabinet reshuffle, as well as an organisational overhaul under Nabin's presidency sometime in June.
This comes a day after the BJP's top leadership held a meeting at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence. Deliberations were also held regarding Rajya Sabha nominations, Cabinet reshuffle.
Booth-level strengthening remains a priority, as Nabin looks ahead to elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa, and Manipur in early 2027. The meeting was timed as State BJP units near completion of Mandal-level worker training sessions under the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Maha Prashikshan Abhiyan.
In the day-long meetings on Monday, the party also went over its strategies in States like Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal, Manipur, Gujarat, etc, where elections are due soon. The recent political developments in Karnataka, too, were part of the discussions. The meeting also reviewed the formation of the BJP's Uttar Pradesh team under the new State chief, Pankaj Chaudhary, underscoring the urgency of organisation-building
Sources said the BJP is preparing for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, scheduled for next year. The party is focused on forming a complete organisational team and refining its electoral strategy in the State, which has 80 Lok Sabha MPs and 403 Assembly seats.
Present in the meeting were national office-bearers, including BL Santhosh and other party general secretaries. Before these gatherings, Nabin met party workers in Dehradun and visited a booth at the President's home on Saturday.
Party Spokesperson Sambit Patra said that meetings like these, where feedback of the party worker is sought, are important for the party.
“Feedback from party workers help us strategise on how to work on the ground to strengthen the party. An expansion of the party under the leadership of President Nitin Nabin is on the cards,” Patra said.
The party is mounting a nationwide publicity campaign as Modi completed 12 years in office as the prime minister, surpassing the tenure of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of the country. Patra said that under Modi, the BJP now has Governments alone or with NDA partners in 22 States, and that going forward, the party is deliberating on how to reach out to the youth, women, backward classes as well as professionals.
A day earlier, on Sunday, the BJP's Central Election Committee met to finalise candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council elections. The meeting was chaired by BJP president Nitin Nabin and attended by Prime Minister NarendraModi.
Leadership also reviewed political developments and forthcoming organisational changes in other states, with appointments already made in Delhi, Haryana, Tripura, and Punjab.
In a related development on Monday, the BJP appointed Nagendra Nath Tripathi as the party's national organiser, a party functionary said. Tripathi, a senior BJP leader, was serving as zonal general secretary for Bihar and Jharkhand.
These meetings are part of preparations for the June 18 Rajya Sabha elections in 10 states, as scheduled by the Election Commission.
