WB Suvendu Adhikari denies political vendetta, says CID Notice to Abhishek Banerjee based on TMC MLAs’ complaint

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday rejected allegations of political vendetta against the Trinamool Congress (TMC), asserting that the CID notice issued to TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee stemmed from complaints made by two legislators from his own party.
Addressing a press conference, Adhikari said TMC MLAs Ritabrata Bandopadhyay and Sandipan Saha had alleged that their signatures were forged in a resolution submitted to the Assembly Secretariat supporting the appointment of Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay as the Leader of Opposition. Shortly after the allegations surfaced, the TMC expelled both legislators for alleged anti-party activities.
The Chief Minister maintained that neither the BJP nor the state government influenced the CID investigation. According to him, the matter originated from complaints submitted to the Assembly Speaker, following which an FIR was registered and the case was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Adhikari alleged that the resolution submitted by the TMC contained several signatures written in block letters and questioned their authenticity. He claimed that handwriting experts and CID officials have already examined multiple legislators as part of the investigation.
The Chief Minister further stated that at least three TMC MLAs reportedly informed investigators that the signatures attributed to them were not genuine. He urged authorities to take appropriate legal action if forgery is established during the probe.
Meanwhile, Abhishek Banerjee has accused the BJP government of political targeting and has sought additional time to appear before CID officials, citing health-related reasons. According to Adhikari, it is up to the investigating agency to decide whether such an extension should be granted.
The controversy has intensified political tensions in West Bengal, with both the ruling BJP government and the opposition TMC trading accusations over the ongoing investigation into the alleged forgery case.
