Assam on high alert as heavy rain and flash floods in Arunachal raise flood threat

The Assam government has been placed on high alert following heavy rainfall and flash floods in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh, amid concerns over a possible rise in water levels in several rivers flowing into the state.
State authorities are closely monitoring the situation after intense rainfall triggered flash floods and landslides in parts of Arunachal Pradesh. Officials fear that the excess water may flow downstream into Assam, increasing the risk of flooding in vulnerable districts.
Disaster management teams, district administrations and emergency response agencies have been instructed to remain prepared for any eventuality. Authorities are also keeping a close watch on river levels and weather forecasts issued by relevant agencies.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has advised officials in flood-prone areas to maintain readiness, while local administrations have been directed to ensure the availability of rescue equipment, relief materials and evacuation plans if required.
Officials said continuous rainfall in the upper catchment areas could impact river systems across Assam, especially in districts located along major rivers originating in Arunachal Pradesh.
The government has urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious, follow official advisories and avoid venturing into waterlogged or landslide-prone locations during the ongoing monsoon season.
