Andhra CM directs stringent action against accused in Rajahmundry medicos hit-and-run case
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday, August 7, directed officials to take stringent action against the accused in the Rajahmundry incident in which two medicos were hit by a car allegedly driven by persons under the influence of alcohol.
The incident occurred outside a shopping mall in East Godavari district's Rajahmundry on Thursday, August 6, after two men, allegedly inebriated, were denied entry by security personnel while attempting to watch a movie. As they drove out of the mall basement, their car allegedly hit a motorcycle carrying two postgraduate medical students, Priyanka and Umesh, before speeding away.
Priyanka sustained a severe head injury and remains in critical condition while Umesh suffered minor injuries.
The chief minister also enquired about the health condition of the injured medicos and said it was distressing that they had sustained injuries in the incident.
"The accused should face stringent punishment and must not be spared under any circumstances for hitting the two medicos with a car," Naidu said in an official release.
Directing the police to ensure exemplary punishment for the accused, he said there should be zero tolerance for such reckless and irresponsible behaviour.
Officials briefed the CM on the sequence of events and informed him that the accused, who allegedly hit the victims vehicle and fled the scene, had been arrested.

He also instructed officials to continuously monitor Priyanka's health condition and ensure that all necessary medical assistance is provided to the injured medicos.
He also conveyed his concern and support to the injured students and their families, reaffirming the government's commitment to provide all necessary medical assistance until their full recovery.
