Amit Shah reviews security preparations for Amarnath Yatra 2026 ahead of July 3 start

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday chaired a high-level meeting to review security and operational preparedness for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, which is scheduled to begin on July 3. The meeting was attended by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, CRPF Director General GP Singh and other senior officials.
Authorities reviewed security measures for the 57-day pilgrimage to the holy Amarnath cave shrine located at an altitude of 3,880 metres in the Himalayas. Officials said advanced surveillance systems, intelligence-based monitoring and close coordination among security agencies are being deployed to ensure the safety of pilgrims travelling through both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police has strengthened security with advanced screening and anti-sabotage equipment, while a QR-based “Pahchan App” has been launched to digitally verify workers and vendors along the pilgrimage route. Tenant verification drives, inspections of lodgement centres and intelligence-gathering operations have also been intensified.
The CRPF has conducted extensive reviews of operational readiness, with senior officers directing field commanders to maintain a robust security grid. Officials emphasised that strong inter-agency coordination and proactive measures will be key to ensuring a safe, smooth and incident-free Amarnath Yatra 2026.
