AC electric buses to connect 21 heritage and spiritual sites across 4 tourism circuits
Delhi is set to introduce two air-conditioned electric buses for tourism, with the vehicles planned to connect four curated circuits covering 21 heritage, spiritual and cultural sites across the capital, according to documents issued by the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation Limited (DTTDC).
The DTTDC has invited bids for supplying two nine-metre air-conditioned electric buses for tourism purposes, according to the tender document.
The estimated cost of the procurement is Rs 2.10 crore and the buses will be added to DTTDC’s existing tourism fleet, which operates guided tours, hop-on-hop-off services, heritage circuits and shuttle services connecting key tourism destinations, it said.
The move is aimed at promoting environmentally responsible tourism mobility and is in line with the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0 (2026-2030), under which new intra-state buses inducted by Government transport authorities are required to be electric, according to the document.
The proposed buses will support four curated tourism circuits — ‘The Soul of Delhi’, ‘The Heritage of Delhi’, ‘Delhi’s Sacred Harmony’ and ‘Echoes of Delhi’ — designed to present the capital’s spiritual, historical, architectural and cultural attractions as connected travel experiences.
The first circuit, ‘The Soul of Delhi’, covers Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Sacred Heart Cathedral, Agrasen Ki Baoli, Lotus Temple and Akshardham Temple. The route brings together places associated with different faiths and architectural traditions, stretching from central Delhi to the eastern part of the city, an official said.
The second, ‘The Heritage of Delhi’ includes Birla Temple, Jhandewalan Mata Mandir, Jantar Mantar, Yogmaya Mandir and Jagannath Temple. The circuit links religious and historic locations across Mandir Marg, Connaught Place, Mehrauli and Hauz Khas, offering visitors a mix of heritage and living traditions.
The third circuit, ‘Delhi’s Sacred Harmony’, includes Praacheen Hanuman Mandir, Digambar Jain Lal Mandir, Ambedkar Memorial, Purana Qila and Hazrat Nizamuddin. It connects sites in central, northern and southern parts of Delhi, highlighting the city’s diverse religious and historical landscape, the official said.
The longest circuit, ‘Echoes of Delhi’, has six stops — Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib, Buddhist Temple, Church of Redemption, Mehrauli Archaeological Park, Chhatarpur Mandir and Linga Bhairavi Sannidhanam. The route brings together religious institutions, archaeological remains and cultural landmarks spread across several parts of Delhi, he added.
The four tourism circuits were unveiled at the Spiritual and Heritage Tourism Conclave-2026 held at Akshardham Temple. The conclave focused on presenting Delhi as a destination centred on spirituality, heritage and experiences, with the circuits offering visitors structured routes across the capital’s cultural landscape.
The proposed tourism bus service is expected to complement existing heritage and sightseeing operations by providing dedicated electric mobility for curated routes. With 21 sites included across the four circuits, the initiative seeks to offer visitors a wider and more connected experience of Delhi, he added.
