19-year-old allegedly raped, confined by live-in partner in Gurgaon

A 19-year-old student of a private university was allegedly confined, assaulted and raped by her live-in partner at a paying guest (PG) accommodation in Gurgaon’s Badshahpur area, police said on Sunday.
The woman, who sustained visible injuries and burn marks on her body, was initially taken to Sector 10 Civil Hospital and later referred to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, due to the seriousness of her condition.
The accused, also 19 and a resident of Delhi, was arrested shortly after the incident was reported. He was arrested from Delhi.
The case came to light on February 19 when the survivor’s mother contacted the Badshahpur police station. She alleged that her daughter was being confined and harassed by her boyfriend at their PG accommodation. Acting on the information, a police team was dispatched to the location.
When officers reached the PG, they found the woman injured. She was immediately shifted to a hospital for medical examination and treatment.
In her complaint to the police, the woman stated that she and the accused had been living together in the same room. During the course of their relationship, the man frequently questioned her about her activities. According to investigators, an argument broke out between the two, which escalated into physical assault and rape.
“In the preliminary investigation, it was found that the victim and the accused met in September 2025,” a police officer said.
The survivor is originally from Tripura, while the accused hails from Delhi. It is not yet clear how long she was allegedly confined or what prompted her mother to alert the police.
During interrogation, police said it emerged that both families were aware of the relationship and had been in discussions regarding the couple’s marriage.
However, disagreements reportedly arose between them. Gurgaon police spokesperson Sandeep Turan said that during questioning, it came to light that talks of marriage were underway between the families.
“However, due to certain disagreements, the accused allegedly assaulted the victim,” he said.
Based on the woman’s complaint and the findings of the medical examination, a case has been registered at Badshahpur police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Police said that appropriate sections were added after reviewing the survivor’s statement and medical report. A detailed investigation is currently underway.
Officials are also examining the sequence of events leading to the alleged confinement and assault. They are collecting further evidence and recording statements to establish the full circumstances of the case.
The accused remains in custody and will be produced before a court as per procedure, police said.
