A 22-year-old youth died after he was electrocuted by a live wire in a waterlogged area outside his home in South-West Delhi on Sunday afternoon. A case has been registered at Dabari Police Station against power distribution company BSES and the power officer of the area, for causing death by negligence.
Police said Rajiv Sharda lived with parents in Mahavir Enclave and was working with an online advertisement company in south Delhi. "On Sunday, around 1.30 pm, the victim and his friend were headed to a nearby market," said a senior police officer. The area was flooded after the torrential rains.
"The victim had walked just 50 metres when he fell and came in contact with an electricity meter wire lying in the water. Rajiv was electrocuted and died on the spot," the officer added. He was taken to Bhagwati Sundra Hospital but could not be resuscitated.
His family claimed that the police initially refused to lodge their complaint. In the evening, police shifted the body to Deen Dayal Hospital for post-mortem. An officer said, "A case was registered under Sections 304-A (causing death by negligence) and 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter) of the Indian Penal Code."
