A 24-year-old youth was drowned in the Billabong High International School’s swimming pool in Noida on Tuesday. The deceased, identified as Shivesh Bose, a resident of Sector 34, was found dead mysteriously as the pool was only three-feet deep. The pool has two coaches but they are working without proper licence. There was no lifeguard at the pool when the incident took place.
Police said that the youth, an employee of a Noida-based private company and son of a retired Colonel Siddarth Bose, was a professional swimmer. The victim was swimming along with around a dozen people around 7 am. Bubbles were also coming out from his mouth when he was taken out from the pool. He was immediately admitted to the nearby Shivalik Hospital and later shifted to Kailash Hospital. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination. No case has been registered yet so far. The school authority said that the depth of the pool is just three foot while Shivesh is more than five and half foot tall.
Sanjay Chauhan, City Magistrate of Noida, said that a special drive was conducted around four months back by a technical team at all swimming pools of the city and it was revealed that most of them were violating the swimming guidelines.
“We had issued notices to swimming pool owners of Bal Bharti School, Kothari International School, Apeejay School, Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Supertech Society, Amrapali Society and Alok Vihar Society for running pools without no objection certificate. The team had also inspected Billabong School’s swimming pool and it was found that the school had adopted adequate safety measure,” Chauhan said.
