It is not only the North-East students who have a privileged helpline number and special helpdesks to guide them through the admission procedure at Delhi University.
Now even the students applying under the SC/ST quota can avail these privileges as the Youth Dignity Forum has stationed themselves outside every centre and are offering students not only help but counselling as well. The forum has also created four helpline numbers, which students can call to clarify their doubts. As admission help desks come to the rescue of SC/ST students, hovering helicopter parents can finally take flight.
Convener of the forum Hemant Kumar Gaur said that the purpose of this assistance was to guide students. “Students applying under SC/ST quota are usually from villages and small towns and are very shy when they come here. They are clueless about the procedure and get very confused. We help in clarifying their doubts. We also sit with them and counsel them as to what course they could opt for,” he said.
The forum sets up counters outside admission centres from 8 am to 2 pm. According to Gaur, students don’t understand the OMR form well. “Since the forms for SC/ST students are separate, students face difficulty comprehending it. They usually don’t know where to fill the certificate number,” informed Gaur.
The forum also helps students when they have to run from one centre to the other. Gaur said, “When the forms for SC/ST in one centre finish, students have to run to another centre. But most don’t even know how to get around. So we make sure they reach the centre and get the forms. They can also get all this information from our helpline.”
The forum will be setting helpdesks only till June 16, when sales of forms end. However, their helpline numbers will be active till the end of the entire admission procedure.
