In a bid to campaign against ‘dilution’ of the land Acquisition Bill, India Youth Congress (IYC) has launched a Kisan Satyagraha. IYC national president Amarinder Singh Raja Brar said that Youth Congress “would go any mile” to ensure land acquisition is not passed.
“On January 12 2015, a memorandum was submitted to the Union Ministry of Rural Development demanding that this new ordinance should be rolled back immediately. Indian Youth Congress is not going to remain silent on this issue and we will continue to oppose such draconian laws and ordinances enacted by this anti-poor and pro-capitalist Modi Government,” said Raja.
Youth Congress has decided go to every MP and MlA house to ask their support in favour of the farmers and thereby stage dharnas in front of the houses of MlAs and MPs who deny their support.
“Farmers are not getting fair price for their produce, the benefits of drop in crude oil prices in international market are also not reaching to the domestic consumers especially farmers who are the most affected and there is a shortage of fertilisers, urea and seed varieties. Above all, this BJP Government is now trying to snatch farmers’ and tribal land on the pretext of land reforms,” added Raja.
Raja further went on to say that Modi-led BJP Government is bypassing the routine democratic processes and in the last seven months they have brought several emergency executive orders (ordinances), and it is evident that the BJP Government is not ready to face the Opposition in the parliament on key issues pertaining to the farmers or the poor.
“Youth Congress will continue its fight for the rights and interests of the farmer and the poor and take this struggle to every Assembly of this country,” Raja added.
