Yet again, waterlogging has city at a standstill
Published on:

Friday morning's downpour brought traffic to a standstill as expected. Jams and choked drains piled on the evidence against civic bodies and their false claims. Waterlogging and back-flow due to poor drainage was reported from 56 points.

South Delhi was the worst hit. Commuters had to wade through submerged roads. Users of the BRT corridor faced a tough time too, as traffic was painfully slow.

"It took me over half-an-hour to cover just a kilometer from Chittaranjan Park to my house in Greater Kailash-II," rued Sangeeta Sharma.

"I had started from my home in Karol Bagh at around 8.30 am and it took me two-and-half hours to reach lajpat Nagar, a distance covered in about 50 minutes," said Sonal lalchandani, a teacher.

Buses were packed, while autorickshaws exploited the opportunity.

"I waited for over an hour to catch an autorickshaw from ITO to lakshmi Nagar. When I got one, he refused to charge by the meter and I had to haggle for a long time," said Malvika Sharma, a student from

Delhi University.

Pedestrians and motorcyclists were seen taking shelter under over-bridges and suchlike, creating bottlenecks.
