A 30-year-old man, coach to the Indian wrestling junior team, escaped unhurt after two men opened fire at him near his residence in Outer Delhi’s Narela area on Saturday evening.

As per the complaint filed by Sonu Khatri, the coach representing Indian team at the World Championship in Finland in August this year, he claimed that first, his neighbour, a 25-year-old Sunil, tried to trespass into his residence in Bankner in Narela and opened fire at him. Khatri works as a coach in the railway department and worked to get medals at the World Championship after a wait of 17 years.

“I had just returned from the National Stadium after finishing the practice when my neighbour kicked open my door and fired at me. I tried to dodge the bullet and hid behind my sofa. Hearing the sound, my family members came out. on seeing them, he fled.

However, by the time, I came out and saw a man on a motorcycle firing in the air. A total of three rounds were fired.

Khatri alleged that although he did not have any scuffle in the recent past, he claimed that his neighbour used to often get into scuffles over parking in the lane.

Police said that a case under Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act and Sections 336 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others), 452 (House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 34 (Acts done by several people in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code at Alipur Police Station.

The coach claimed that police are trying to hush up the matter and instead of adding the Section 307, they have included weaker Sections in the FIR. “The accused is a local criminal in the area.”
