The Haryana Public Works (Buildings and Roads) Minister, Rao Narbir Singh, has said that Haryana would soon have the widest and smallest National Highway in the world.

It would be 16-lane-wide and the total length of the national highway to be built on Sohna road would be just three kilometres.

Disclosing this while redressing the grievances of people at Gurugram on Saturday, Rao Narbir Singh said the Detailed Project Report of the proposed elevated highway costing about `700 crore, had already been prepared. The Union Road Transport and Highways Minister, Nitin Gadkari, would lay the foundation stone of this road next month, the minister said.

Both Northern Peripheral and Southern Peripheral would be the widest 16-lane roads in the world. Metro service has also been proposed on these roads and every metro station to be constructed on these roads would have parking facility for 500 cars.

Concerted efforts were being made to connect the Huda City Centre metro line to Subhash Chowk, the Minister added.

The move will especially benefit sectors 33, 66 and 67, Islampur, Badshahpur, Bhondsi, Jharsa, Sohna and Fazilpur.

Sohna road is a part of Sohna-Alwar Highway and more than 45,000 vehicles travel every day on the stretch. The elevated road project is expected to start by August this year.
